Welcome to Journeys and Pals. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our mobile application, websites, and cloud synchronization services (collectively, the "Service"). By downloading the app, creating an account, or interacting with the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Account Registration & Security

To access travel planning features and real-time cloud synchronization, you must register an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information during registration.
  • Safeguard your login credentials and immediately report any unauthorized access to your account.
  • Be solely responsible for all activities and data operations conducted under your credentials.

2. Collaboration & Invite Code Model

Journeys and Pals enables travel creators and their companions ("Pals") to build and organize itineraries collaboratively:

  • Invite Codes: Sharing a journey's unique 6-character invite code grants the recipient access to view, join, or contribute to the itinerary based on assigned roles (Owner, Editor, Viewer). Share invite codes only with trusted individuals.
  • Host-Only Model: When an itinerary is hosted by a subscriber, invited Pals can join, co-edit, and split expenses without requiring individual paid subscriptions, subject to capacity limits.
  • User Content: You retain ownership of any text, notes, custom pins, and photos you submit. You are responsible for ensuring that you possess the necessary rights to upload any shared media.

3. Subscriptions, In-App Purchases & Free Trials

Journeys and Pals provides both free features and premium subscription tiers (such as the Creator Pass):

  • Free Tier Entitlements: Free accounts may create and host up to 1 active personal journey at a time and join group journeys hosted by other users.
  • Creator Pass: Subscriptions unlock unlimited active journeys, AI itinerary imports, and host-level real-time group collaboration.
  • Billing & In-App Purchases: Subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Payment is charged to your store account upon confirmation of purchase.
  • Automatic Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the conclusion of the current period.
  • Free Trial: If offered, any unused portion of a free trial period is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. You may cancel during the trial period via your device's Store Account Settings without being billed.
  • Managing Subscriptions & Cancellations: You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time directly within your Apple ID or Google Play Account Settings. Refunds are governed by the respective store's refund policies.

4. Fair Use & Service Limits

To maintain platform reliability and lightning-fast synchronization for all users, the Service implements reasonable capacity guardrails:

  • Pals per Journey: Standard Creator itineraries support up to 20 active Pals per journey. For commercial tour operators, travel agencies, or larger groups, custom enterprise licensing is available.
  • Safety & Storage Limits: Technical limits apply to protect against abuse (e.g., maximum 30 activities per itinerary day, 500 expenses per journey, and 5 attached photos per activity item).

5. AI-Generated Itineraries & Recommendations

Journeys and Pals includes AI itinerary parsing tools powered by modern language models to help structure travel schedules:

  • AI-generated schedules, routes, opening hours, and venue recommendations are generated automatically for planning assistance only.
  • We do not warrant or guarantee that AI-suggested destinations, operating hours, prices, or transit options are up-to-date or error-free. Always confirm critical travel details independently.

6. Offline-First Architecture & Data Sync Disclaimer

Journeys and Pals utilizes an offline-first local SQLite database to support travel in remote areas with limited connectivity:

  • Unsynced Offline Data: Changes made while disconnected reside solely on your device. Uninstalling the application or clearing app data before syncing to the cloud will result in permanent loss of unsynced changes.
  • Navigation & Mapping: Map pins, routes, and geographic coordinates are for illustrative planning convenience only. We do not warrant the absolute accuracy of navigational indicators.

7. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited actions:

  • Attempting to bypass authentication boundaries, reverse-engineer database sync protocols, or breach security controls.
  • Using automated scrapers, bots, or crawlers to extract data or overload real-time servers.
  • Uploading unlawful, defamatory, infringing, or malicious content, including malware or corrupted media files.

8. Intellectual Property

The Journeys and Pals brand, logos, visual designs, software code, and interface assets are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, modify, or distribute our proprietary materials without prior written consent.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate account access and cloud syncing privileges if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent transactions, or compromise the security and performance of the Service.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Journeys and Pals and its team shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service, including missed flights, itinerary discrepancies, travel disruptions, or data loss.
